How to Homeschool Mathematics in High School- Vicki Tillman

I’ve known a few homeschool moms who begin to experience great fear and trembling when their high schoolers begin the high school math programs. They do not feel up to the rigors of the upper-grade levels in that subject.

 

However, it can be done! If God called you to homeschool high school, you can be sure His provision is there.

 

Here are some general high school requirements. Check for your state requirements at HSLDA’s website (and join, too). Also, check your umbrella school’s requirements and those of local colleges if you child is planning on higher-level education.

 

General mathematics requirements:

-Algebra 1

-Algebra 2 (not all schools and states require this)

-Geometry

-Pre-calculus, Trigonometry, Calculus (varies according to the location, many places do not require these)

-Consumer Math or Financial Literacy

 

For college-preparatory students that love math, computers, or are called into a science field:

-Courses that offer instruction: Teaching Textbooks, A+ Tutorsoft

-Courses you teach: Saxon (you can get instructional videos), A Beka, Math-U-See, Singapore

-Courses at your local umbrella school

-Work with a tutor

 

For average high-school students:

-Globe Fearon Pacemaker Algebra, Geometry

-Key-to Algebra, Geometry

 

I often use Purple Math online for questions where my son finds himself stuck.
